Media Policies & Check Out Procedures

Primary students may check out one book at a time.

Intermediate students may check out two books at a time.

Students who check out books may keep the book for one week and then renew it for one more week if they have not finished reading it. Student must have their book with them for it to be renewed. No fines are assessed for overdue books, but students may not check out another book until the overdue book is returned. In addition, if a student damages or loses a library book they are responsible for the current replacement cost of the damaged/lost item.

*Parents & family members, please do everything you can to encourage your student to take care of their library books. You can help:

  1. Remind your child to keep their books clean & dry (no water bottles in backpacks)
  2. Help keep books in a safe place away from pets & small children
  3. When changing a residence, place library books in your child's backpack for safekeeping/return

Birthday Book Club

The Freedom Elementary Media Center’s Birthday Book Club is a wonderful way to commemorate a student's birthday. Participation not only enriches the library collection but allows our students and their families to be personally involved in its growth. If you are interested in your child joining the Birthday Book Club, please access the form below. Your generosity will benefit all Freedom Elementary students. Please contact Miss Ross if you have any questions.

Media Center Access

The Volusia County School district has a process in which parents can select their student's level of access to the school media center collection each year:

  • Unlimited (Students default to unlimited access if Media Center Access Form is not filled out.)
  • Limited
  • No Access

Parents can access the form to tell the district their preference using the link below. The parents' choice will be recorded in Destiny, the district's library book circulation system.
